Utility-Scale Wind Farms
Company |
WestWind Energy has already developed a number of potential wind farm sites in Australia. These sites feature a good wind resource, close proximity to the national electricity grid and are located in areas that are not ecologically sensitive. The company’s first development (Mt Mercer Wind Farm) was acquired as a green field site by New Zealand’s Meridian Energy in 2009. Today 64 Senvion MM92 wind turbines are spinning at Mt Mercer and with an installed capacity of approximately 130MW the wind farm produces enough electricity to power over 70,000 average homes. Two fully permitted projects at Lal Lal and Moorabool are awaiting investment now and combined they could have an installed capacity of over 450MW. Other development sites in Victoria and in other states are ready for further development. However, with the uncertainty around the Renewable Energy Target the company has deferred their development for the time being until more clarity around renewable energy policies in Australia and its states and territories returns. More information on WestWind Energy’s wind energy projects is available in the Projects section. |
